Goshawk Wood - SOLD, Somerset - About 4 acres, £49,000

Goshawk Wood - SOLD

At the northern extremity of the Mendip Hills a series of steep wooded combes cut into the carboniferous rock that underpins the dramatic undulating landscape of North Somerset.

The approach to this area passes through Brockley Combe before ascending to the western edge of the Lulsgate Plateau where uninterrupted mature woodland straddles the level ground between neighbouring valleys. It is here that Goshawk Wood lies deep within this oasis of calm and provides a home for numerous tree and animal species.

A newly improved track leads through the surrounding private woodland and ends at the entrance to Goshawk Wood. Sycamore, holly and larch flank the entrance and a pathway invites you to follow into the dense interior where fleshy forest ferns and mosses thrive in the clean woodland air. This is a truly delightful place to wander through the mature Japanese larch, ash and Scot's pine and perhaps observe at close quarters the hunting Goshawk, after which the wood is named, as it swoops along the woodland rides in search of prey or a roe deer sheltering under the dense canopy of a yew.

In close proximity is the wooded Goblin Combe nature reserve. Home to the rare moonwort fern which grows under old yew trees. The woodland and scrub on the reserve support a thriving population of the hazel dormouse, one of the largest in the area.

The nearby town of Nailsea is useful for a range of everyday shops and pubs and the city of Bristol lies within easy reach, providing access to an extensive range of services to fully equip the forester or camper with tools and supplies.

These particulars and plans were prepared by local manager Daniel Sharp.

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.
