Hemlock Wood, Gloucestershire - About 4 ⅓ acres, £59,000

Hemlock Wood

Red Cedar, Hemlock and Norway Spruce shelter clusters of delicate grasses and woodland flowers on the forest floor, where the patchy sunlight filters through. Hemlock is said to take its name from the unrelated poisonous plant that gives off a similar odour to the crushed foliage of the hemlock tree but this long living evergreen species is not itself harmful. Quite the contrary; it is the provider of important nesting habitat and its bushy drooping limbs can be used to shelter other tree types in a mixed woodland from damaging winds.

This woodland has plenty of scope to be enjoyed in its present state as a mature, secluded place to escape to nature or to engage more fully in long term woodland management with selective replanting of native broadleaf species. Either approach allows for the continued enjoyment of this wood as a place where nature can thrive and be protected.

A cleared track leading to a small block build shed is a great addition to Hemlock Wood. This can be used as a woodland store and shelter and a good base from which to further explore the numerous possibilities that this wood offers a new owner.

Notable wildlife includes the wild boar, fallow and muntjac deer. Early morning or late evening can usually prove productive when looking for these elusive and secretive creatures.

Hemlock Wood is surrounded by other private woodland but once beyond the confines of the forest the rural landscape is an eye catching patchwork of fields interspersed with farms, footpaths and villages in this delightful area just a few miles from the extensive facilities of the city of Gloucester.

These details were prepared by local manager Daniel Sharp.

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.
