Heron Wood - SOLD, Hampshire - Nearly 9 acres, £105,000

Heron Wood - SOLD
Heron Wood - SOLD
Hampshire

A large seasonal pond welcomes the visitor to Heron Wood before further discoveries await further within the boundaries of this varied habitat.

There is so much here for family and friends to enjoy and to keep the woodland wildlife enthusiast gainfully occupied. From collecting fallen boughs of wind blown oak for the wood-burner to the clearing of sections of bramble to promote the regeneration of native woodland flora such as wood sorrel and celandine at the sunny fringes overlooking open farmland. Diversity in Heron Wood is further enhanced by the presence of a large woodland pond in the south west corner, providing a valuable resource for not only the insects, birds and mammals but also the human visitor. This pond provides great scope for further enhancement where it has diminished in recent years. The wood is named after the Heron that is so attracted to a water feature of this type.

The sturdy trunks of mature oak and beech in Heron Wood are ideal for bat and bird boxes as a haven for woodland species facing the threat of habitat loss along with the regeneration of neglected coppice. Replanting open areas and preserving areas of dense thicket in the wood will also protect the nesting habitat for the retiring nightingale and the redstart and will provide all the satisfaction and enjoyment that comes from enhancing an area of classic English broadleaf woodland for future generations.

A series of animal tracks meander across the forest floor between enormous oak and beech along with smaller species such as holly, hazel and ash. Small areas of flowering shrubs catch the eye and well established drainage channels that have cut deep into the forest floor provide a source of running water in the wetter months.

The nearby village of Rotherwick offers a friendly welcome at the village pubs if staying overnight to complete a woodland project. Hook is only a couple of minutes drive and for more specialist woodland tools and supplies Basingstoke is within easy reach in this most accessible yet peaceful woodland location.

These details were prepared by local manager Daniel Sharp.

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.
