SOLD: Hinders Wood £69,000 Freehold

Description

Well made access tracks lead through surrounding privately owned woodland directly to the boundary of Hinders Wood. Once within the shelter of the tree canopy an attractive and varied landscape of ancient banks and hollows provides enormous interest and variety for a new owner to engage with the task of enhancing and preserving this wild environment for the benefit of the many species that live here. There is a small area of valuable wetland in the winter months at the eastern boundary of the wood, where the deep channels of seasonal drainage streams converge, acting as the nursery for the woodland insects that provide the first important link in the food chain. Further into the wood clearings ideal for camping, enjoy spectacular views through the trees to open farmland beyond.

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.

Trees

Numerous pathways wend their way amongst an interesting array of ground flora. Grassy clearings are linked by these paths beneath a high canopy of predominantly mature oak. Under the protection of these historic oak trees, hazel, hawthorn and holly provide cover and variety throughout the wood. Hazel coppice is much in evidence and for the forestry enthusiast is a valuable and versatile resource for woodland crafts.

Wildlife

Plant life can thrive in the peaceful woodland setting. Angelica Sylvestris is the Latin name for the flowering woodland plant. Sylvestris denotes its preference for 'growing in woodland' and historically is believed to have medicinal properties as an anti inflammatory. The spring months see a stunning floral display of bluebells illuminating the woodland floor.

Access, tracks and footpaths

Hinders Wood is located in the eastern section of this larger woodland area known as Birdwood, well away from large human populations. A footpath forms the northern boundary of Hinders Wood as indicated on the plans below.

Local area and history

The fertile plains of the Wye and Severn rivers around Hinders Wood are characterised in recent generations by traditional farms and numerous small villages. Hinders Wood takes its name from this rural tradition, a local thoroughfare thought to derive its name from the female deer, 'hind'. Nearby Birdwood is home to the Kings Head Inn within easy walking distance for refreshments after a rewarding day of woodland activity.
