Hoppus Wood - SOLD, Hampshire - About 5 acres, £75,000

Hoppus Wood - SOLD
Hoppus Wood - SOLD
Hampshire

A rural retreat where nature can be fully enjoyed in this peaceful private setting.

Although predominantly made up of a central area of striking mature oak trees there are a number of other distinct areas that vary the character and feel of this woodland passing from one part to another.

At the eastern edge an area of mature conifer blends into ancient oaks that form the heart of Hoppus Wood. The high canopy here presides over a series of grassy clearings where wildflowers and woodland flora flourish in sunny glades. These areas make perfect family camping retreats and secluded locations for seasoning wood piles in the summer sunshine in readiness as winter fuel for the log burner.

The entrance to Hoppus Wood is accessed from an excellent woodland track, where there is space to park, from here an area of birch and hazel leads to the large clearings beneath the oak trees and this insect rich foraging ground makes ideal territory for woodland birds and mammals.

The giant oak trees in Hoppus Wood have immense ecological value as an important part of the woodland ecosystem far beyond that of mere monetary value but there is an enormous volume of mature oak here that can be sustainably harvested for numerous woodworking projects. The woodland takes its name from the eighteenth century surveyor Edwin Hoppus who first sought to standardise a measurement (Hoppus square foot) for timber cut from the main trunks of trees into useful square sections for sale.

Hoppus Wood presents a great opportunity for the woodland enthusiast by itself or in conjunction with neighbouring sections of woodland that are also being offered for sale.

The wider surrounding area is characterised by the natural beauty of rural Hampshire. Nearby Hook provides a range of everyday services for the woodland visitor and in spite of the peaceful location there is excellent access to the motorway network just a few minutes away from junction 5 of the M3 to the south or Junction 11 of the M4 to the north.

These details were prepared by local manager Daniel Sharp.

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.
