SOLD: Redpoll Wood £35,000 Freehold

Description

Redpoll Wood is a delightful blend of birch, oak and hazel interspersed with areas of dense conifer. This interesting mix supports a variety of wildlife and creates great opportunity for the enthusiastic small woodland owner to restore the hazel coppice, harvest mature timber or benefit from the abundance of available wood fuel.

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.

Trees

Numerous pathways wend their way through the wood amongst an interesting array of ground flora. Grassy clearings are linked by these paths beneath a canopy of predominantly mature oak. Under the protection of these historic oak trees, hazel, hawthorn and holly provide cover and variety throughout the wood. Hazel coppice is much in evidence and for the forestry enthusiast is a valuable and versatile resource for woodland crafts.

Wildlife

The air is alive with the shrill chatter of woodland birds. A rare Goshawk nest has been sighted elsewhere within the surrounding woodland and this wood for sale takes its name from the redpoll, a native woodland bird found throughout the UK but more commonly in the south during the winter months.

Elusive roe deer can be found browsing here by the patient wildlife watcher as these deer roam freely through the wood.

Features

Once within the shelter of the tree cover a small woodland pond can be found at Redpoll Wood, acting as the social hub for the many woodland creatures that come here to drink and also as the nursery for the woodland insects that provide the first important link in the food chain. Wild boar are also known to wallow in muddy pools at drier times of year.

Access, tracks and footpaths

This woodland has level access along a length of woodland track right up to its entrance that is suitable for most vehicles. Once within the wood a delightful pathway tracks along the northern boundary through the trees all the way to the far end of Redpoll Wood.

Local area and history

Nearby is the attractive village of Blaisdon; a thriving village and home to the Red Hart Inn within easy walking distance for refreshments after a rewarding day of woodland activity.

Beyond Redpoll Wood the natural beauty of the surrounding area draws many visitors. Numerous walking trails cross the county including The Gloucestershire Way and Offa's Dyke Path. The Wye Valley offers a chance to enjoy the scenery from the water and the historic city of Gloucester provides all the facilities necessary for a comfortable camping experience or to begin the journey of managing your own wood.
