Sounder Wood - SOLD, Gloucestershire - About 5 ⅓ acres, £69,000

Sounder Wood - SOLD
Sounder Wood - SOLD
Gloucestershire

A beautiful mixed woodland with excellent access, located amongst the rolling farmland of rural Gloucestershire.

Sounder Wood is a wood of distinct variation. Whilst predominantly mixed broadleaf of mature oak and younger planting of cherry, oak and birch; the wood is bisected by a well established track that separates the broadleaf area from mature Hemlock and Grand Fir that creates a completely different feel within this area.

A large grassy clearing marks the entrance to Sounder Wood which would make an ideal place to set up camp or picnic. There is plenty of space for vehicles here and excellent track access further into the wood.

The oak tree is renowned as the Monarch of the forest and has long been the subject of folklore and legend throughout the ages, as well as the subject of song and poetry that captures the spirit of the mighty tree as in this work The Brave Old Old Oak by Henry Fothergill Chorley

A song to the oak, the brave old oak,
Who hath ruled in the greenwood long;
Here ’s health and renown to his broad green crown,
And his fifty arms so strong.
There ’s fear in his frown when the sun goes down,
And the fire in the west fades out;
And he showeth his might on a wild midnight,
When the storm through his branches shout.

Sounder is the name of a community of wild boar and although elusive and predominantly nocturnal the wood takes its name from these groups which have been reported to forage in the area. Other wildlife include fallow, roe and munjac deer along with smaller mamels such as foxes and badgers.

Sounder Wood is surrounded by other private woodland but once beyond the confines of the forest the rural landscape is an eye catching patchwork of fields interspersed with farms and villages in this delightful area just a few miles from the extensive facilities of the city of Gloucester.

These details were prepared by local manager Daniel Sharp.

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.
