SOLD: Wintle Wood £52,000 Freehold

Wintle Wood has an engaging landscape set around a ravine running the length of the wood that has been formed over thousands of years and now provides a secretive environment harbouring numerous species of wildlife thriving in this diverse habitat.

Open farmland to the north provides an attractive backdrop for views through the wood. Elevated level areas of ground make an ideal setting for a woodland base looking out across this tranquil setting. From here the gentle murmuring of the stream provides a delightful soundtrack along with the many other sounds of the living forest.

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.

Numerous mature pine trees reach skyward at the centre of the wood. The wood takes its name from the reeling, swaying motion of the trees, derived from an old Dutch word. These are interspersed with oak and sycamore at the boundaries and at other area throughout the wood.

The varied terrain around the stream that passes through Wintle Wood provides diverse habitat for insect life, voles and woodland mammals. A water source is always a great draw for wildlife and the unspoilt and peaceful setting of the wood adds further appeal for secretive woodland creatures.

Wintle Wood is immediately notable for the varied terrain. Deep gullies converge within the wood where water flows have carved their path through the landscape creating ideal wildlife habitat and a woodland that invites exploration.

Access, tracks and footpaths

A good access track passes through other private woodland to reach the entrance to Wintle Wood, where there is space to park. A number of paths and tracks lead into the wood and these could be further enhanced according to the requirements of a new owner. A useful bridge crosses the stream that runs through Wintle Wood.

Local area and history

Wintle Wood is conveniently close to the attractive market town of Bruton. This settlement thrived around the medieval abbey based here and as and a bridging point over the river Brue after which the town is named

Location map

From the town of Bruton follow the A359 towards Frome until bearing right as you exit the town onto the Brewham Road. Continue out of the town with the railway line on your right hand side for a mile or so as the road becomes Pinkwood Lane and there is woodland on both sides of the road, After a further few hundred metres you will see a 'Woodlands For Sale' sign and metal entrance gates leading onto a woodland track.

These gates are kept locked but prospective purchasers can contact Daniel on 07780 900192 for the combination padlock code to allow vehicle access or can walk from this point taking care not to obstruct the gates.

Approaching from Frome and the north, head south on the A359 until a right turn at a rusty signpost reading 'North South' onto Hassock's Lane. After a few hundred yards bear right onto Hutchin's Lane and proceed for a further few hundred metres until the road bears sharply to the right at Batt's Farm. From here continue down Pinkwood Lane for a few hundred metres until the entrance gates and 'Woodlands For Sale' sign on your right.

Follow the woodland track up hill into the woods and refer to the plans below for the exact location of Wintle Wood, which will be found on your left hand side after approximately 900 metres or so as you follow the loop of the track round to the left.
