SOLD: Woolgather Wood £55,000 Freehold

Evening sunlight from the western boundary has created a rich variety of woodland grasses and flowers at the fringes. This is the perfect spot to enjoy the protective canopy of the forest and contemplate the great spectacle of nature. This is the very process from which the woodland takes its name. The children of rural households were often sent to gather small snags of wool from the hedgerows and this pursuit allowed plenty of time to indulge the mind in some healthy aimless daydreaming.

Further progress into the mature woodland leads to a constantly changing character. Immersion in the sounds and sights of the forest and the impressive scale of the red cedar here is remarkable. Further south the woodland transforms yet again, where an area of broad leaf hazel, oak, lime and ash creates a different environment for the birds and mammals that live here. Numerous animal tracks are evident on the ground, crossing between the thick tree cover as they lead towards the deep gullies that hold valuable water supplies in the wetter months.

Access to the wood is via a well made forestry track that leads to the entrance of Woolgather Wood, from where a grassy woodland ride leads in to the wood, enabling access to the numerous clearings under the conifer canopy for setting up the perfect base camp for forestry projects and nights around the camp fire.

There is little here to disturb the peace as the woodland is located well away from roads and there is a remarkable absence of the intrusions of modern life. There are a number of low intensity public footpaths in the area, one of which passes along the western edge of Woolgather Wood but the occasional walkers often prefer the easier route along nearby access tracks at the boundary.

This is a quiet area of the country with only scattered farms and occasional small villages in the immediate proximity. Gloucester and access to the M5 is however an easy drive away, of approximately 15 minutes, where extensive resources for the small woodland owner are available.

These particulars and plans were prepared by local manager Daniel Sharp.

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.
