Brockle Wood comprises mostly mature conifers with an understory of younger broadleaved trees such as hazel, sycamore and willow. The woodland floor has areas of bluebells making a spectacular display. The well spaced conifers have been selectively thinned allowing the purchaser the opportunity to carry out some replanting with native broadleaved trees, this will enrich the biodiversity of the woodland.

The woodland is recorded as an Ancient Replanted Woodland site, as it has been continuously wooded but has had the original tree cover replaced with newer conifer plantings, often in the last century. Ancient Replanted Woodlands such as Brockle Wood still retain plenty of the characteristic plant species of ancient woodlands, often dormant in the soil. Some of the indicator plants of Ancient Woodland sites that are found within Brockle Wood include bluebells and Opposite-leaved golden saxifrage.

Access to the woodland is from the quite lanes around Lewannick village and then along a stoned track leading into the main woodland gate. Through the gate there is a large shared private parking area which is at the southern edge of Brockle Wood. This area is suited for year round use for all vehicles. You can drive into the heart of Brockle Wood using a stoned track suited to 4x4 vehicles and other vehicles during the drier months. There is also access to the northern edge of the woodland via a stoned forestry track to the left of the main car park.

At the heart of Brockle Wood there is a level grassy clearing by a small disused quarry. This sheltered spot is ideal for camping and has a useful shelter and picnic bench to enjoy the view; from here you can see a nearby lake, river and the countryside beyond; a marvellous panorama.

To the eastern edge of the boundary there is a zig-zag track which provides a route on foot to the northern part of the woodland.

As well as the badgers, deer, foxes and rabbits are present within the woodland; buzzards circle overhead and plenty of birds can be heard and seen within the trees.

Brockle Wood is aptly named; brockle or badgers hill or hole is from the Anglo-Saxon word 'Broch' meaning badger as there are many signs of badgers within the woodland. Badgers are creatures of habit and will use the same routes to get around their territory. These well used paths are known as runs and can be hundreds of years old if the sett has been undisturbed. Badger runs will often link a main sett to feeding areas (snuffle holes) and other badger holes know as 'outlier' setts, smaller homes often near the edges of their homestead.

Brockle Wood is positioned well to explore both the north and south coastlines of Cornwall being near equidistance to the quaint fishing harbours of Boscastle on the north coast and Looe on the south coast. Bodmin Moor is within easy reach with numerous walks in a stunning landscape. Lewannick village is a pleasant walk along peaceful lanes and has a pub and village shop.

A report has been prepared detailing the ancient woodland areas of the wood and providing useful guidance and information on restoration options. A copy of the report is available upon request.

Road Directions from A30

- About 4 miles west of Launceston, immediately after the Two Bridges refreshment area, take the exit signed Lewannick & Plusha.

- At the T-junction, turn left towards Lewannick.

- Continue into Lewannick. At the T-junction with a pub to your left and village hall to your right, turn right.

- Follow the road through the village for about 150 - 200 yards, then turn left, sign-posted Trelaske.

- After about half a mile, at a fork in the road, take the road to the left, again sign-posted to Trelaske.

- Follow this road for about 1 mile, where you will see Trelaske Manor to your right. Turn left here, over a cattle grid, with a sign alongside it for Trelaske Barton.

- Follow this track for about 200 yards, ignoring turns & entrance ways to your right. The track now bends sharply to the right, with another track going off to the left.

- Follow the right hand track and you will see a field gate in front of you with a 'woodlands for sale' signboard on it.

- Park by (but not obstructing) the gate.

- Go over the gate (the buyer will be provided with a key). The shared main parking area is just in front of you by the southern edge of Brockle Wood.

- The main access to the woodland is straight across the car park and down the track heading east.

- At the fork in the track take the left hand fork and continue down the track for around 30 metres until you see a stone track heading left (north) into the trees.

- Take this track and continue along it for another 100 metres and you will see the entrance to Brockle Wood in front of you. There is a right of way over this track to access the woodland.

- Heading straight along the track you will come to the level area with a shelter. There is also a track down to the right at the entrance which takes you to the northern side of Brockle Wood.
