You are here: Home > Buying a Wood > Cornwall and West Devon > Gover Wood - SOLD
Ideally located on the north Cornwall coast, Gover Wood is a pleasant conifer woodland with a large clearing perfect for camping by an attractive stream.
For anyone seeking a truly private and sheltered area of woodland look no further than Gover Wood. Bordered on the west and northern boundaries by mature hedge-banks, Gover Wood is mostly fast growing spruce trees, offering privacy and the possibility of a timber harvest in the future. Access is via a good stoned forestry track from a gate near the south-west corner that joins a quiet country lane.
The land slopes gently down towards the northern boundary which has a stream running along it. A narrow track runs down inside the western boundary and there are cut paths winding through the trees. About 80% of the woodland is planted with spruce with the remainder rough grassland and it is here in this very enclosed and private area that the varied birdlife can best be enjoyed. Roe deer are regularly seen here too. The grassland area is sparsely populated with fruit trees and other sprecies such as willow and hazel, whilst the hedges contain a wide variety of species including oak, hazel and willow.
Gover Wood derives it's name from the Cornish word 'Gover' or 'Goverow' (plural) meaning stream or brook as a small stream runs along the northern hedge bank.
The wood is set among further areas of woodland and farmland. Despite being only a mile or so from the village of Kilkhampton, from where much of what north Cornwall has to offer is easily accessible. This includes the coastal town of Bude where there are stunning beaches in the town including Summerleaze and Crooklets beach the wood has a very peaceful and secluded feel to it.
Particulars and plans were prepared by our local manager, Stuart Brooking.
The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.
