Thrushell Wood, Devon - About 8 acres, £79,000

Thrushell Wood

Thrushell Wood was planted around 15 years ago and already has the feel of a maturing woodland. Access is from a local quiet country land and then via a stoned track directly into the woodland. The entrance (see picture 1 below ) has a gate with fencing either side, providing both privacy and security where there is a private stoned area for parking. From here there are generous grass rides leading through the woodland into a mosaic of habitat types found within.

Large conifer trees provide privacy and act as shelter for deer and woodland birds. By contrast there are well spaced broadleaved trees with a more open feel under the canopy. Species of native trees include ash, hazel, alder and the shrub guelder rose, which produce delightful red berries that are an important food source for birds such as the mistle thrush.

A delightful stream forms the eastern boundary, here you will find a rustic bench, please do take some time to sit and appreciate the calm and peaceful qualities of the area. This stream eventually meets the river Thrushell from which Thrushell Wood derives its name.

Located in the centre of Thrushell Wood a large clearing can be found. This is an ideal location for family camping or to site a green woodwork area or perhaps to site an observation hut for watching deer and other wildlife that share this wood with you.

Thrushell Wood also has the benefit of a great location within a few miles of the north-western fringes of Dartmoor National Park. Here you can enjoy plenty of walks and cycle rides in the stunning local landscapes. Within easy reach is Lydford gorge and Brentor, both very much worth exploring. The north Cornwall coastline and surfing beaches around Bude are within a 30-40 minute drive.
