Trenay Wood - SOLD, Cornwall - About 4 ½ acres, £49,000

Trenay Wood - SOLD

Trenay Wood is named after Little Trenay Farm which borders the woodland to the east. Spend time near the eastern boundary and you will soon get the feeling of being watched - the cattle take a very keen interest in what is happening in the woods! Recent excavations and 'fresh' latrine areas indicate that the badger sett in the bank along this same boundary is in current use. Clearly visible narrow tracks through the woods show that deer as well as badgers frequent the area.

The woodland can be thought of as being divided into three sections: from the river to the access track, from the access track to a broad grassy track running right across the wood and from here to another track which follows the eastern boundary bank. Close to the grass track, where it approaches the northern boundary there is a large fallen (oak) tree - a potential source of firewood for many a season. Whilst less in evidence close to the river, the remainder of the woodland is absolutely carpeted with bluebells and wood anemones during the spring - a fantastic sight to experience, no photograph doing it justice.

Large, graceful beech trees dominate the woodland, but there are many other deciduous species present, all creating a deep and colourful leaf-litter during the autumn. Near to the river the trees are well spaced, allowing you to walk by the water's edge. A bench in a clearing beside the river provides a great place to sit and take in the sights and sounds all around you. The sound of the water tumbling over the moss-covered boulders in the river forms a constant backdrop, punctuated by birdsong. One thing you won't be hearing is traffic noise, other than the occasional tractor on nearby farmland; deep in the woods you have a sort of 'lost in time' feeling even though it is not far back to the real-world.

Getting into Trenay Wood is a simple matter, there is a hard-surfaced track all the way from the entrance gate and a parking bay to the side of the track within the wood itself, so it is not far at all to carry tools, camping equipment, picnic supplies and such like.

The river running along the western side of the woodland is called the Warleggan, taking its name from a small hamlet just to the north, on Bodmin Moor. In Warleggan there is a sign saying that it is twinned with Narnia - and there is indeed something magical about this woodland!
