Trengoffe Wood - SOLD, Cornwall - Nearly 5 acres, £49,000

Trengoffe Wood - SOLD

Trengoffe Farm is across the river from the woodland, the farmland extending right down to the water's edge and north towards Pantersbridge, where a fine old 15th century stone bridge spans the Warleggan River (also known as the River Bedalder) on what was at one time the main thoroughfare connecting Bodmin and Liskeard.

A stoned track leads you into Trengoffe Wood and just beyond the entrance to the woodland there is a parking and turning area. From here you can head off in any of three directions in order to explore the wood:

  • taking the track to the left leads you up towards the eastern boundary. Part way up this track you will find another track which runs approximately north to south through the woodland. This broad grassy track enables you to explore the central areas of the wood
  • continuing along the stoned track takes you gently down towards the southern part of the woodland. In spring, the sights and smells of the slopes to your left as you walk this way are a real 'assault' on the senses, with the vibrant blues, yellows and whites of the bluebells, wood anemones and primroses accompanied by the pungent smell of the wild garlic (ramsons)
  • heading off to your right will lead you down to the river, where there is another track running all the way across the woodland, close to the riverbank. For the most part the river is shallow and fast-flowing, with large boulders protruding above the surface, but there are also deeper pools where the water swirls around and it is here that you are most likely to catch glimpses of the river's resident and visiting inhabitants: trout, sea trout and even salmon returning to spawn further upstream.

Beech trees of varying ages and sizes dominate the woodland; their downy green leaves of early spring maturing to form a shady canopy in summer before turning through yellow, auburn and rusty shades before falling late in the year to create a colourful carpet on the woodland floor. Many other broadleaved species are also present though, including oak, willow, hazel and the evergreen holly.

Surrounded by further areas of woodland and farmland, Trengoffe Wood is a very peaceful and undisturbed woodland, so not surprisingly there is plenty of wildlife to be found, including deer, badgers (there is a sett in the eastern boundary bank), rabbits and foxes. Songbirds dodge from tree to tree, buzzards wheel overhead and along the river kingfishers, dippers and heron are to be found.

With such a good network of tracks criss-crossing the woodland, it is tempting to just keep moving, but there is much to be experienced by simply staying still, looking & listening.

Particulars and plans were prepared by our local manager, Dick White.

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.
