Lightleigh Wood - SOLD, Devon - Over 3 acres, £29,000

Lightleigh Wood - SOLD

Lightleigh Wood is set upon the gentle rolling hills of rural Devon. A tranquil antidote to the fast-paced, hectic, modern environment. For those wishing to practice weekend mindfulness within a habitat of bird song and silent trees or for a family looking adventure and outdoor pastimes Lightleigh Wood is ideal.

The woodland is listed as Ancient semi-natural woodland on the Government's Magic database. This means that this woodland has existed at least since 1600 AD. The name Lightleigh Wood is probably derived from the Old English leah - meaning a forest glade or clearing. The nearby village of Chittlehamholt was formerly a hamlet of Chittlehampton, and originated as a forest-clearing (holt) by the villagers of Chittlehampton.

Chittlehampton is the home of St. Hieritha’s Church and holy well. This is a large church of the late Perpendicular period. St Hieritha was a saint in the 7th Century and is said to have been buried under the church. The church is well respected and the bells are sought out by campanologists . Saint Urith's holy well still stands at the east end of Chittlehampton.

The woodland is accessed by a good stoned forestry track. The purchaser will be given a key to allow full vehicular access. There is a large private parking area next to the entrance which is indicated by a ride-stop. Lightleigh Wood is mostly gently sloping allowing good access throughout. There are impressive large oak trees mixed with other broadleaved species including ash and birch and holly. Sections of the woodland have hazel coppice which are ideal for pea sticks or weave for fencing.

The favourable topography and clear ground floor makes camping an easy prospect and the elevated position allows plenty of sunlight to penetrate the canopy. Ground flora includes a wonderful display of bluebells in the spring.

Conveniently located near South Molton and the A361 allows quick journey times from the M5. A sound base in mid-Devon for those wishing to enjoy the delights of this diverse and stunning county from the rugged coastline of north Devon’s surfing beaches of Croyde and Woolacombe to the quaint market towns of South Molton, Barnstaple and Crediton, Lightleigh Wood is located almost centrally between the National parks of Exmoor and Dartmoor.

Particulars and plans were prepared by our local manager Stuart Brooking.

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.
