Otters Holt Wood - SOLD
Otters Holt Wood - SOLD
Devon

A mature broadleaved woodland set in an idyllic location next to the river Taw.

Otters Holt Wood is a well-drained mature broadleaved woodland with river bank frontage to the river Taw. The woodland setting is peaceful and with good access from a lightly used country lane. The local area has plenty of quiet roads linking to numerous footpaths making this a great location for exploring this beautiful part of Devon.

The northern area of woodland has many mature trees consisting of oak, ash, holly and hawthorn with an under layer of hazel. An old forest path meanders down to some rustic steps which leads to the river bank where a bench is located. Please do take time to sit here and enjoy the waterside views. The bench is located in an ideal spot for observing the local wildlife, which includes roe deer, kingfishers and the elusive otter.

The woodland has been aptly named. A holt is an underground den where otters shelter. The river Taw was the location that Henry Williamson used for his famous novel 'Tarka the Otter' : His Joyful Water-Life and Death in the Country of the Two Rivers' written by and first published in 1927.

The southern section of Otters Holt Wood is a classic mature broadleaved woodland that includes areas of bluebells in the spring.

Exclusive use of an area of meadow next to the river comes with this woodland. This area is shared only by other neighbouring woodland owners. A picnic bench has been placed here. It is easy to imagine time spent with family and friends by this riverside setting in summer would be glorious.

Nearby is the Tarka trail, a walk designed to follow the areas featured in Henry Williamson's book. The local area has numerous traditional small towns where you can relax in a cafe and enjoy small independent shops. Crediton is a good example of this and is within a short drive.

Please view Otters Holt Wood with care, the topography of woodland can be undulating so be aware to avoid slips, trips and falls. Also, as part of the woodland is along the river bank please take care.

Particulars and plans were prepared by our local manager, Stuart Brooking.

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.
