Archibald Wood - SOLD, Suffolk - About 3 ⅔ acres, £45,000

Archibald Wood - SOLD

Archibald Wood forms the south east corner of a much larger woodland known as Titsal Wood set in a picturesque location to the west of the village of Shadingfield.

Once inside the larger area of woodland in which Archibald is located a private communal parking area has been created for owners to use during the wetter months. From here it is a short walk to Archibald Wood. The tracks are usually dry in summer thus allowing the owner the opportunity to drive to Archibald Wood.

As you enter Archibald Wood you cross a ditch which ensures privacy and provides a well defined boundary. From here a track meanders deeper into the woodland. Follow this track and the wood opens up allowing sunlight to cascades through the canopy. At the end of this track nestled within a glade is an attractive pond.

The woodland is predominantly hornbeam coppice interspersed with oaks and ash trees. The woodland is deemed such a good example of Suffolk hornbeam coppice it has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest. A future owner has the advantage of not only the protection this offers but free advice and guidance from Natural England.

Fields lie to the south and east ensure the woodland is filled with light. Vantage points along the woodland edge offer the the opportunity to observe animals such as hares and deer enter and leave the woodland at dawn and dusk.

The woodland is home to a vast array of wildlife, including woodcocks, pheasants, hares and deer. Three species of deer were seen within the woodland in one day, Chinese water deer, muntjac and fallow.

A bench has been placed conveniently beside the pond: please do sit here when visiting and take in the atmosphere. This area would be an ideal spot to set up camp or have a picnic.

The nearby village of Shadingfield has an excellent farm shop and a number of pubs are with in cycling distance. Named after Sir Archibald Acheson who married the only daughter and heiress of Robert Sparrow of Worlingham Hall (Suffolk). The hall is one of a number of important houses close to the woodland. Much of this part of England has remained remarkably unchanged for centuries.

Located about one hour's drive from both Ipswich and Norwich and being only a short drive from the town of Beccles the woodland is easily accessible offering anyone a perfect rural retreat from the hustle of modern day living.
