Coed Dirion - Dirion Wood - SOLD, Gwynedd - Over 5 ½ acres, £39,000

Coed Dirion - Dirion Wood - SOLD

Coed Dirion consists of predominantly broadleaf trees with a significant variety of different species. In the past some areas had been utilised as wood pasture, certainly in the 1800s and possibly as recently as the 1960s. However, these areas of land have now fully reverted back to woodland. As a result of this, the farming land would be indistinguishable from the rest of the land without the visual aid of the remains of the old dry stone walls and nearby sheep pens which provide a cultural insight as to how farming was carried out in the past. About one third of Coed Dirion, mostly the north western part, is designated as ancient woodland.

This wood is particularly interesting due to how rare untouched woodland, such as this one, is these days. Typically, woodland is interfered with or managed by forestry workers or farmers, so to see woodland which is untouched for many decades is quite uncommon.

There are many different species of trees growing in this woodland, including oak, ash, silver birch, hazel, rowan, sycamore and holly. In some areas there are thick and very dense understories of hazel, holly and ash. During the months of April and May, carpets of bluebells can be seen, and along with this is a mix of different types of bracken, ferns and during the winter a variety of fungi.

Starting from the road, a recently repaired and upgraded track leads to the wood which provides good access. Coed Dirion has its own parking area which is made apparent with a ridestop which was made from timber from the woodland.

There is also another track that goes through the wood. From this track it is possible to explore more of the woodland and meander down to the impressive cliff face which has the fast flowing Dwynant River at the bottom.

Although Coed Dirion is a sloping wood which ends at the river, there is a lot of potential for the new owners to create level clearings and pathways to make Coed Dirion more accessible

The woodland is particularly enjoyed by the wildlife inhabiting the area. Some of the known wildlife includes various birds such as owl, buzzard, green woodpecker, jay, woodcock, wood warbler and treecreeper. However, there is also the potential for other wildlife to be discovered as the woodland is explored.

This woodland is south easterly facing so during the summer months receives lots of sunshine.

The coastal town of Barmouth is fairly nearby which means that there are tourist attractions and amenities available.

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.
