Coed Helyg, Wrexham - Over 17 ½ acres, £45,000

Coed Helyg

Coed Helyg is a large mixed woodland situated in the village of Pandy near the market town of Llangollen.

The entrance is marked by a wooden foot gate which opens onto a short path into the wood. In this area there are many large rocky outcrops and moss-covered boulders which makes for very dramatic scenery.

The tree species within the wood include oak, ash, holly, silver birch, hazel, cherry, elder, sycamore, sitka spruce and larch.

Badgers, buzzards and a variety of songbirds are among the different species of animals which can be found here. For many years there has been a bird monitoring programme in place to record many different bird species that nest in Coed Helyg. Additionally, herons are known to be sighted in nearby areas. In the neighbouring woodland, pigs are being kept and can be seen from the adjoining boundary.

The most interesting feature to this woodland is Craig Y Pandy which is a large rocky outcrop at the summit of the wood along the northern boundary. Previously the woodland was owned by Wrexham council who used the woodland as an outdoor learning centre. The renowned Pandy outcrop has been very popular over the years with Climbing enthusiasts. At the summit of the rock there are stunning views of the surrounding valley.

The wood is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) because of the geology of the area and the Pandy outcrop itself, to protect a very important natural feature that is unique in the Ceiriog Valley.

When visiting the woodland we ask that great extra care is taken when climbing the woodland to reach the Pandy outcrop.

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.
