Coed Ogwen - Ogwen Wood - SOLD, Gwynedd - Over 2 ⅓ acres, £29,000

Coed Ogwen - Ogwen Wood - SOLD

Coed Ogwen is a woodland situated very near to the town of Bethesda, on the river Ogwen which is very near to this woodland, and after which the woodland is named. This is a relatively small town which used to be known for the quarrying of slate and stone. There are also the villages of Tregarth and Rachub nearby. Coed Ogwen is just off the A5, and is very easily accessible from the A55 road. Being situated close to Bethesda, this woodland provides views of the mountain scenery of Snowdonia in the form of the Ogwen Valley.

The entrance of the woodland begins with a wide track which forms the western boundary. The track then leads to the right to a large clearing in the middle of the woodland which is very level and is therefore suitable for many different activities. This part of the woodland is perfectly suited for camping and using as a base when visiting the woodland.

A rare and notable feature of Coed Ogwen is the Rock Cannon (Cerrig Cannan) which dates back to the year 1838. A Rock Cannon is a rock or boulder which has had holes bored into it and filled with gunpowder. This was done to create an explosive effect which was often carried out during times of traditional celebrations. This provides a unique aspect to Coed Ogwen as it is very rare for woodlands to contain a feature such as this.

Some of the features of this woodland also include many old stone walls in different areas. These are interesting as they provide an insight into the history of the area. There is also a large shipping container being included with this woodland which provides safe and secure storage for tools etc.

Some of the species of trees which can be found here include hazel, holly, silver birch and sycamore, but the most abundant is oak. Bluebells can be found along the ground. There is also a variety of wildlife present as many songbirds can be heard when walking around the woodland.
