Flume Wood - SOLD, East Sussex - 4 ¾ acres, £55,000

Flume Wood - SOLD

Flume Wood is part of an Ancient Semi-natural Woodland along a very quiet country lane not far from Bexhill. It is accessed by a good all weather stoned track.

You first come upon the southern section of Flume Wood where you will find mostly chestnut coppice, birch and the occasional oak. The main track to the east of the wood leads to the ride stop – where an owner can drive into his wood (weather permitting). Enter the wood here by a wide path which leads across to the west side of the wood, as well as round to a seat which is situated amongst many magnificent mature oaks. Do take a moment to sit and enjoy the tranquillity of this attractive wood. There is also a useful small wire-fenced enclosure (an old pheasant pen).

A track along the West side of the wood follows the natural downwards slope to the north of the wood where you will find many more mature oaks as well as hornbeam and birch. Walk across the north side of the wood in the Spring and you will find a sea of wood anemone and bluebells on the forest floor and pass a small seasonal stream and the occasional rhododendron. You might be surprised to see a handful of dry, dead chestnut both lying and still standing. This is partly a result of the chestnut coppice having been affected by phytophthora.

Flume Wood is a part of Park Wood, for which we have two useful studies by professionals. The Management Plan has been written by a qualified and experienced forestry professional to indicate a way in which Park Wood as a whole might be managed, but only you can know what you want to achieve and what your resources are. The Management Plan is not mandatory, but it is full of good advice, and a lot of background information which will certainly be interesting and useful We are fortunate to also have a report from our Professional Adviser Prof. Julian Evans, author of “Getting started in a wood of your own”.

Flume Wood is within easy reach of the sea, being only about 3 ½ miles to the beaches at Bexhill. Amongst the many attractions in Bexhill is the De la Warr Pavilion a recently renovated art-deco building, and well worth a visit.

The owner of Flume Wood will have vehicle rights of way along the tracks on the map marked in green.

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.
