Shackle Wood - SOLD, Kent - 8 ¼ acres, £75,000

Shackle Wood - SOLD

Shackle Wood is a delightfully varied wood tucked away in the Kent countryside, within a large woodland area known as ‘The Forest’.

On entering the wood you will soon come to a mature Portuguese laurel tree. Walk a little further along a winding foot track and reach a chestnut seat under a fine oak. Here is a good spot to stop and enjoy the surrounding woodland. Beyond this there is hazel coppice, with its straight growing and strong, yet flexible, nature. Established trees here, for example ash, birch , hornbeam and oak, could all be managed for firewood supplies. Wildflowers, such as bluebells and speedwell, are here in the wood, mostly concentrated in the north-west section. Throughout the wood are several old banks and ditches, probably established very many years ago for marking out old boundary lines and drainage of the wood.

To discover more of the local countryside, take the public footpath that runs nearby, leading to the Dering Arms and Pluckley station. This is reputed to be the oldest railway station in the world, and being within easy walking distance it makes Shackle Wood the perfect woodland to access by train. Further north is the attractive village of Pluckley, which was listed to in the Domesday Book as 'Plukele', and is said to be the most haunted village in England! The owner of Shackle Wood will have vehicle rights of way to the wood, along the tracks marked in green on the map.

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.
