An extremely attractive ancient hornbeam woodland with a spillway leading to the River Ouse running though it, surrounded by woods and fields.
Trinity Wood is an incredibly special ancient wood located over a kilometre down a stoned track far away from the road. It is within a larger wood known as Wapsbourne Wood, an estate that has been wooded since medieval times, and perhaps for longer. The whole area is designated as Ancient Semi Natural Woodland by Natural England and is close to the border between West Sussex and East Sussex.
There is a wide range of broadleaf trees in Trinity Wood, mainly hornbeam, oak, birch and chestnut.
A spillway runs through the north west corner of the wood (which rejoins the River Ouse to the north east of the boundary). On the far side is a small ‘island section’ only accessible across the river by the owner. Please be aware that the spillway can be very deep and flow extremely fast in wet periods. Wild garlic flourishes along the banks of the spillway and river during the spring. From the north side of the wood you can see across the meadow to where, in the distance, the occasional steam train passes on the Bluebell Railway. To the east of the wood ancient hornbeam are found along the field boundary.
The owner of Trinity Wood will have vehicle rights of way along the portion of the stoned track marked on the plan in green. Trinity Wood has its own entrance with ride stop, directly off the main stoned track.
The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.
The wood has minimal ground cover, apart from some small areas of bracken. A seat has been installed where an owner can sit and enjoy the tranquillity of this wonderful ancient woodland. Perfect for private family camping or for learning and practicing bushcraft this wood has lots to offer.
Owning a wood here would also provide a great base for exploring the area, particularly as access to the Sussex Ouse Valley Way walk is nearby. This is a walk of some 40 miles in total length, giving access to many areas of interest and natural beauty in Sussex. Just beyond the River Ouse is the Bluebell Railway terminus at Sheffield Park, with connections to East Grinstead and the mainline, and just beyond that is Sheffield Park Gardens.
