A sweet chestnut coppice wood - designated an Ancient Woodland and featuring an attractive clearing.
Uphill Wood is a chestnut coppice wood located south of the A2 approx. 6 miles from Faversham and 8 miles from Canterbury. It is part of a larger woodland known as ‘Goulds Wood’. The wood is located directly off a country lane and being set back from the road, it is extremely quiet and peaceful.
Featuring a sizeable south-facing sunny clearing, Uphill Wood provides the perfect spot for those wishing to camp privately or to enjoy the wildlife the wood has to offer. The woodland slopes south west allowing for good drainage. The north east of the wood is flat.
Uphill Wood is mainly chestnut coppice with birch, hazel, oak of various age classes, and holly also found in the wood. The most recent coppicing in the north east of Uphill Wood was undertaken approx. 3 years ago. The more mature coppice in the southern part of the wood is quite well-spaced and easily accessed on foot.
Natural England designates Uphill Wood as an Ancient Replanted Woodland (PAWS). This land has been wooded since at least 1600AD.
Kestrels, buzzards, great spotted, lesser spotted and green woodpeckers have been recorded in the area. There are several wood ant nests in the wood.
The main entrance to the wood is a double metal gate off Rhode Common. The entrance to Uphill Wood itself is via a stoned track leading to the ride stop entrance. Here owners are able to drive in and park a car within Uphill Wood.
There is a generous timber storage area which is shared with the other owners just inside the main entrance gates.
There are no public rights of way within the wood itself.
The wood is sold with the sporting rights.
The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.
Uphill Wood provides the opportunity for a new owner to manage a coppice wood, learn and practice bush crafts, as well as enjoying the privacy it offers for family camping.
The village of Selling is less than 1 ½ miles away and has a mainline station and a handy General Store. Canterbury is approximately 8 miles from Uphill Wood and Belmont House which usually hosts an annual woodfair in September is approx. 6 miles away. South Blean, a Kent Widlife Trust nature reserve, is situated to the east of Goulds Wood.
