West Pullens Wood is a delightful mixed ancient woodland, surrounded by woods and countryside with wonderful views over the vineyard to the north west. It lies within the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). There are no public footpaths within or alongside Pullens Wood (of which West Pullens Wood is a part) and the wood feels extremely private.

The south east of the wood comprises a semi-mature oak and cherry plantation. This includes naturally regenerating birch, hazel, ash and beech throughout. The plantation is approximately 20 years old. Thinning would allow the larger trees to thrive as well as some sunlight to reach the woodland floor. This area of the wood is quite flat, with what are believed to be the occasional old saw pit. A dense hedge interspersed with mature broadleaves runs along the south east edge of the wood, providing good privacy from the road.

The north west of the wood includes many mature oaks, occasional Scots pine and Norway spruce, again with some naturally regenerating broadleaves throughout. This area of the wood slopes to the north west down to the stream (which lies just outside of the boundary). A short section of the bank by the stream is quite steep and a private walk track has been created to enable an owner to safely access this edge of the wood. Further along the stream in the north of the wood the bank flattens out and there is a superb quiet spot to set up a family camp. A seat has been installed near one the internal rides, amongst the magnificent oaks. West Pullens Wood offers plenty for those keen on wildlife, deer have been spotted in the wood as well as spotted fly catchers, marsh tit and redwings all within the local area. Wildflowers emerge in the spring - a carpet of bugles appear along the open rides attracting bees and butterflies alike, and there are primroses found within the wood.

West Pullens Wood is particularly convenient to the A21 and has superb access - a double metal gate entrance set back from the Lamberhurst Road, leads to a timber stacking area which is shared with other owners. From here the stoned track leads south west to the entrance of West Pullens Wood. Here you will find a ride stop entrance, where an owner can drive in and park. There is also a private pedestrian access (for West Pullens Wood only) from Tong Lane on the south eastern boundary as indicated on the map.

West Pullens Wood has been designated as an Ancient Replanted Woodland (PAWS) by Natural England, however it is noted the area to the south east of the wood has mostly been restored to native mixed broadleaves. This land has been wooded since at least 1600AD.

The Management Plan for this wood has been written by a qualified and experienced forestry professional to indicate a way in which Pullens Wood (of which West Pullens Wood is a part) as a whole might be managed, but only you can know what you want to achieve and what your resources are. The Management Plan is not mandatory, but it is full of good advice, and a lot of background information which will certainly be interesting and useful. Please bear in mind that not everything in it applies to the particular area of Pullens Wood which is West Pullens Wood.

For those who like water, Bewl Water is less than 4 miles away. Bedgebury National Pinetum and Forest is approx. 6 miles offering lots of healthy outdoor activities including family cycling and mountain-biking, walking, and running trails, as well as a tree top adventure. Tunbridge Wells is approximately 8 miles.

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.

Please note, for satellite navigation, use the post code TN3 8AD. This will take you to within approx. ½ mile of Pullens Wood as shown by the red dot on the map. Coordinates to the main entrance gate leading to West Pullens Wood off the Lamberhurst Road are: N51.120429, E0.406434. To find the wood follow the instructions below.

  • Following the A21 south of Tunbridge Wells towards Hastings, continue south past the A228 turn to Pembury.
  • Continue south on the A21 straight over at the next roundabout and then past Burger King and the BP garage on the left.
  • At the next roundabout (which goes right to Lamberhurst) take the left turn on the A262 signposted to Goudhurst / Horsmonden.
  • Almost immediately turn left onto the B2162 Lamberhurst Road towards Horsmonden.
  • Follow this road round to the right (past a turning to the left to Tong Lane). At this point Pullens Wood is on the left of the road.
  • You will see a ‘Woodlands For Sale’ sign on a tree on the left – just before there is the main double gate entrance (where you will see a smaller ‘Woodlands For Sale’ sign). These gates are approx. 300 meters along Lamberhurst Road (from the turning to Tongs Lane) and set back off the road.
  • It is recommended you reverse into the double gate entrance (to make exiting easier) to park and view the wood (leaving one of the gates accessible).
  • Go round the gates, following the stoned track immediately to the left. The ride stop entrance to West Pullens Wood is approx. 200 meters ahead of you with its boundaries marked in RED.
  • Sat Nav note: The post code TN3 8AD is for the point shown on the location map by the red dot which is along Tong Lane.
