Cree Wood - SOLD, South Ayrshire - Almost 7 acres, £35,500

Cree Wood - SOLD

Set in the wild beauty of South Ayrshire, Cree Wood is a mainly spruce plantation woodland dating from the late 90’s.The wood is situated on a gentle slope with open ground along the eastern and northern boundaries. Internal access is provided by a hard grassy track alongside the Galloway stone dyke wall, which forms the western boundary, together with several grassy pathways through the middle and along the perimeter. A painted-top fence post line further marks the boundary together with a short hawthorn hedge across the ride.

A second track leads to a hard standing area with a very useful 20’ shipping container. Inside the container is a fully equipped caravan mounted on a trolley which can be winched out onto to steel channels. At the back of the container is a small work bench and several maintenance tools. These items are included in the sale. This more level area has been planted up with a number of native broadleaf species including bird cherry, ash, birch and cherry. Bramble bushes and self seeded willow also complement this section which has sweeping views over the Duisk and Luce fells.

Here is place to take a step back from modern life and join the local wildlife in this peaceful corner of the Galloway forest. An overnight stay would bring additional benefits of some breathtaking and unspoilt sunsets and nightscapes. The spruce is maturing well and could easily supply a sustainable source of firewood.

Access: is via a shared gate and track up to the south-west corner where it joins the internal access track. Although greened over the tracks have a firm base.

Sporting Rights: These are owned and included with the land.

Surrounding Area: Cree Wood is situated in a landscape of mixed fell and forest hillside between the Duisk and Cree river valleys. Barrhill and Glentrool villages are within a few miles in opposite directions and offer good local rural services including a railway station at Barrhill. The nearby Glentrool Forest Park , which is part of the vast Galloway Forest, offers a variety of walks including The Merrick - South Scotland's highest mountain, a section of the Southern Upland Way and amongst diverse forests and lochs. It is also one of the 7 Stanes mountain biking centres providing some great short and long-distance cycling routes. The towns of Girvan, Stranraer and Newton Stewart lie within 15-25 miles.

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.

There is a growing interest in hut, bothy and temporary shelter building, especially in Scotland; for those interested in erecting a hut or shelter, here is some interesting and very helpful guidance from Reforesting Scotland’s Thousand Hut Campaign. Your Local Planning Authority should also be consulted.
