English Wood - SOLD

English Wood is a glorious, established woodland to the south of the Northumbrian towns of Corbridge and Hexham. The large coniferous trees are nicely spaced, allowing a great deal of sunlight to penetrate the canopy. This has resulted in the natural regeneration of not just the larch but also of pioneer species including holly, birch and the yellow flowers of the gorse and red berries of the hawthorn.

Small birds such as the robin, great tit and coal tit perch in the lower branches as they sing. This is particularly lovely at either end of the day as the light filters through the trees towards the north, casting an amber glow on nice days. The forest floor is home to the foraging badger and browsing roe deer.

English Wood benefits from an easy level terrain with many nice clearings to sit and contemplate nature. The wood has various irrigation channels crossing the woodland which could be further improved to encourage diversity. This is likely to be colonised within a year or so by local amphibia which thrive in other ponds locally.

The open aspect of the woodland provides further opportunity to diversify the woodland by planting other species of plants and trees. Should you choose to fell any of the more mature trees then Larch offers one of the most durable heartwoods making it suitable for the creation of outdoor products.

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.

There is a growing interest in hut, bothy and temporary shelter building, especially in Scotland; for those interested in erecting a hut or shelter, here is some interesting and very helpful guidance from Reforesting Scotland’s Thousand Hut Campaign. Your Local Planning Authority should also be consulted.
