Banc Yr Onnen - Ash Bank, Carmarthenshire - Over 4¼ acres, £29,000

Banc Yr Onnen - Ash Bank

Banc yr Onnen is part of a larger woodland known as Allt Fynnon Wen, part of which has been designated Ancient Woodland, indicating continuous woodland cover from the 1600's. The rest of the woodland was planted under the Farm Woodland Premium Scheme in 1993 and 1994 and the planting varies from areas of mixed broadleaf, to stands of sitka spruce and in Banc yr Onnen itself, ash, mixed broadleaf and a small area of Japanese larch.

The larch is restricted to an area surrounding the hardstanding parking area at the entrance to Banc yr Onnen. The planting then graduates into a large area of ash which makes up the majority of this upper area of the woodland, the planting well spaced and the ground level throughout. An area of ash towards the middle of the wood has, at some point, been coppiced and could of course be coppiced again; great for the woodland and a good resource for the woodland owner. Underfoot there is grass, fern and bramble.

Making your way through the woodland in a westerly direction you will come across an old fence line which bisects the wood from the northern to the southern boundary. An old trackway runs along the western side of this fence. This line marks a change in the planting.

Beyond the fence, which can be hopped over with the help of a stile (marked on the map) the woodland is mixed broadleaf with oak, birch, sycamore, rowan and hazel and this continues, the ground sloping down towards the good sized bubbling stream marking the western boundary. The stream burbles downhill before joining the Afon Asen which runs along the very southern boundary of Allt Ffynnon Wen.

There is very good access to Banc yr Onnen. A solid track runs all the way from the public highway to the woodland so access without a four wheel drive is quite possible. There is also ample space for a caravan in the parking area of the woodland, great for shelter, storage or camping over when doing forestry work in your wood.

This is a lovely accessible and manageable woodland for family camping, and also has great potential for management to further enhance wildlife and diversity of habitat.

Newcastle Emlyn is within half an hour drive for petrol, post office, supplies and good curry!

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.
