Coed Kymer - SOLD, Carmarthenshire - Over 10 acres, £49,000

Coed Kymer - SOLD

Not too far from the larger woodland known as Home Covert of which Coed Kymer is a part, runs the Afon Gwendraeth Fawr. In 1766 Thomas Kymer gained permission from Parliament to build the first canal in Wales running alongside the Gwendraeth Fawr linking Carway and Kidwelly port in order to transport anthracite and limestone from his pits at Pwll y Llygod to the docks at Kidwelly. Remains of the canal are still visible and there is some lovely walking along the old route.

Coed Kymer itself has good transport links, maybe not by canal, but Kidwelly train station is only 10 minutes away and by road from the M4 via the A484 is very direct.

The woodland is all on level ground with a solid stone forest grade track taking you directly into Coed Kymer. At its entrance there is room to park a caravan or camper van and a short hop out of the back of this private parking area brings you to a natural hollow somewhat sheltered from the track which could be cleared a little to make a very convenient place to set camp, on the banks of the pretty Afon Nant y Gro. Here there is a rustic bridge which has been constructed to take you to the other side with dry feet and enable further exploration of the woodland.

There are some lovely mature broadleaf, notably oak and ash, especially along the line of an old earth bank which forms much of the eastern boundary of Coed Kymer. Elsewhere are sizeable sycamore and some alder. The understory shows healthy variety, with a lot of holly and at forest floor there are ferns, mosses and wildflowers including yellow pimpernel and this diverse habitat supports a throng of birdlife.

A public footpath runs along the northern perimeter of the wood.

Nearby Kidwelly with its famous castle has shops, cafes and pubs and there are miles of fabulous coastline accessible by foot and bike via the Millennium Coastal Path .

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.
