Coed Llwyn Drain (Thorn Wood), Pembrokehsire - Just under 6 six acres, £39,000

Coed Llwyn Drain (Thorn Wood)

Coed Llwyn Drain is a manageable wood made up mainly of mature conifer, a mixture of larch and Douglas fir planted in the 50's, which has over time been well thinned, resulting in well spaced mature specimens. Throughout the woodland hazel, holly and some young oak and ash saplings have taken hold due to the good amount of light the wood receives on its hill top position. There are also some lovely large mature oak, ash and beech.

Part of a larger woodland known as Drim Wood, it is a wonderfully tranquil spot, most of which has been designated as a PAWS (Plantation on an Ancient Woodland Site).

Natural regeneration of native broadleaf (which should do well here as an ancient woodland site) could be further encouraged and supported by taking out a proportion of mature conifer for timber and replanting with native broadleaf. Any timber from forming these clearings could be put to good use in the construction of shelter or tool storage in the woodland.

Opening up areas will encourage light loving wildflowers, in turn increasing the insect population and providing much needed open woodland habitat for bees. Large areas of the forest floor have been colonised by different species of fern and there is honeysuckle and ivy providing food and shelter for birds and insects.

A good track, although steep initially, leads up to the ride stop at the entrance to the woodland. There is a sizeable turning circle here with ample space to park a vehicle. Continuing in to the wood along a forest track, brings you to a large level area, with plenty of space for making camp. There are lovely views out over neighbouring countryside and the nearby Eastern Cleddau and it is a tranquil spot. The woodland is easy to explore, through well spaced trees and over level ground.

The village of Clunderwen is only 2 miles away to the east, where you will find a village shop, pubs and a rail connection. More pubs, restaurants and a good variety of independent shops can be found in the lovely market town of Narberth 3 miles to the south and the beautiful Pembrokeshire coast is as little as 5 to 10 miles away. There are many fabulous walks in the area including the Landsker Borderlands Trail. Running alongside Drim woodland is the Eastern Cleddau, one of Pembrokeshire's prettiest rivers and well known for its population of sewin sea trout.

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.

Directions

Coed Llwyn Drain lies a few miles north of the A40 between Haverfordwest (10 miles) and St Clears (10 miles). From the A40 take the A478 north for about two miles. Just after you enter Clunderwen and before you reach the 30mph zone, turn left signposted Maenclochog. Follow this road for approx 2.5 miles. Turn left onto road signposted Gelli and follow this round for 0.2 miles, over two stone bridges. The woodland entrance is approximately 100 metres past the second bridge.

After turning off the road you turn into Drim Wood and onto a stone track. This track is a marked bridle way with public right of way.

At the first bend of the track there is a sharp right turn off the main track and the access to Coed Llwyn Drain is up this fairly short but steep slope which then levels out at the entrance with ride stop to the wood. You will see a Woodlands for Sale sign and wooden name board for Coed Llwyn Drain on the ride stop.
