Tyle Tegeirian (Orchid Hill), Carmarthenshire - 4¾ acres, £35,000

Tyle Tegeirian (Orchid Hill)
Tyle Tegeirian (Orchid Hill)
Carmarthenshire

Set in mid Carmarthenshire, a mainly broadleaf woodland with stream; dotted with wildflowers in the spring and busy with wildlife all year round. Easily accessed off an excellent track.

Tucked into the west facing slope of a small valley, Tyle Tegeirian feels very sheltered and protected.

The surrounding countryside is very pretty and the approach to the wood is lovely, past a small lake and along an excellent track, easily walked and perfectly accessible for any vehicle, either two or four wheel drive.

As you meander along the track into woodland, you come to the southwestern tip of Tyle Tegeirian on your right. The wooded bank slopes up to the southern boundary where it meets surrounding fields. Many different wildflowers thrive here in the dappled shade, popping up in spring in all different hues, golden celandine, starry white wood anemone, pale pink oxalis, and the purple spikes of wild orchids after which the wood is named.

Continuing onwards, you will come to the entrance to Tyle Tegeirian on the right, an area of hardstanding with a ride stop where you can park a vehicle. Directly out of the back of the parking area you enter the cool green of the woodland, into a good flat area where there is a bench and you'll immediately notice the fresh smell of the large conifer and hear the bubbling of the stream which runs close by.

From the bench, its easy to make your way on foot down to the stream. It is fairly damp and boggy in places here along the banks of the stream and many different ferns including hart's tongue, hard fern and soft shield fern can be found here growing in nooks and crannies.

The ground slopes up on the southern side of the stream but it is still quite possible to make your way on foot, although it might be fun to construct some simple steps up the slope.

Persevering up this slope, you will come onto an old trackway, we'll call it the lower trackway, running on a parallel axis to the stream. A short distance along here another small path has been brushcut up the slope to link up with a second old trackway, higher up in the woodland, which runs from the northern boundary to a lovely old gate (not in use) on the southern field boundary.

This, the higher trackway, provides another flat area in the woodland, and from this vantage point it is wonderful to look out over and through the tree canopy of the lower woodland.

Above the higher trackway, on the bank sloping up to the southern boundary, there is a mix of conifer and a good quantity of young and mid sized ash. The limber could make their way up to the fenceline which marks the boundary, which looks out over neighbouring fields.

Back down in the lower reaches of the wood, if, instead of taking the brushcut path up the hill, you continue along the lower trackway, it will bring you out to the south western corner of Tyle Tegeirian where the stream flows out of the woodland and crosses under the main access track through a culvert.

This is an easily accessible woodland only 20 minutes from Carmarthen and direct access to the M4.

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.
