Woodhouse Wood - SOLD, Herefordshire - 5½ acres, £59,000

Woodhouse Wood - SOLD

Woodhouse Wood is set in a gorgeous location near the River Wye and in the rolling countryside of Herefordshire just outside the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The history of this and the surrounding woods goes back to the Domesday Book of 1086 AD when much of the woodland was managed as coppice with standards.

Now, the majority of Woodhouse Wood is very good quality Douglas fir, planted in 1970 and nearing full maturity but there is also a quantity of native broadleaf including mature oaks and beech. There is a very healthy understorey of young broadleaf growth promising a good new generation of trees for the future of this woodland.

There is always an opportunity to supplement this natural regrowth, planting native species such as oak which makes up much of the surrounding area of woodland. This habitat has encouraged a wonderful quantity of wildlife and birdlife to flourish. Birds which have been spotted include wood warblers, the lesser redpoll, spotted woodpeckers and marsh tits and according to a bird survey conducted by the previous owners the conditions are suitable for the nesting of nightingales. Deer tracks are seen regularly in the woodland.

It is an ideal woodland for camping and wildlife spotting, gently undulating with a small stream running along its northern boundary and flanked by open fields on its northern and eastern sides.

There is a large flat open area created in the north eastern corner perfect for a camp out or other woodland activities or woodwork.

Between Ross on Wye (less than 5 miles away) and Ledbury (8 miles away) good food and drink and all other amenities are easily come by. Both are historic market towns full of character and there are many activities on offer from canoeing on the Wye to cycle routes and walks in the surrounding areas and much of historical interest to be explored and discovered.

The White Lion, a traditional pub with rooms in Ross on Wye has a lovely riverside garden and local ales. The Three Counties Cider Shop in Ledbury might interest if one is drawn to local produce!

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.
