Beechwood Wood is located 2 miles to the west of Flamstead and 2 miles south of Markyate. Berkhamsted is 7 miles, St. Albans 9 miles and Harpenden 8 miles. Excellent transport links are via the M1 – junction 9 – M25 and A1(M) motorways ( all distances are approximate) The what 3 words for the main woodland gate location are twirls.error.glance and for the ride-stop at the woods entrance it is variously.curly.rally.

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.

Trees

The woodland is named after its principle tree species the beech tree. Many of these are well established and will continue to mature for many generations growing into magnificent specimens.

Beech is also naturally regenerating and every year the woodland floor will be scattered with beechmast providing a feast for fallow deer.

Entering the woodland, you are welcomed by dappled light on a sea of bluebells and various shades of green in spring. Beech and ash trees approximately 60 years old dominate most of the woodland.

The beech trees were thinned in 2015 and are now well spaced, tall and acquiring girth. A little further into the wood there is an area of pure larch, also 60 years of age. These well-regarded timber trees have good length and diameter, and will be highly valued for their construction grade lumber.

Wildlife

The surrounding land and the woodland is under the protection of the green belt and as such the numerous woodland species that live here have enjoyed a stable environment beyond the invasive urban spread in many parts of the country. It is perhaps for this reason that there is much evidence of elusive woodland creatures thriving in Beechwood Wood. Numerous animal trails across the forest floor and the gnarled bark and fallen branches and brash of the trees provide perfect nesting for birds of prey, stoat and weasel.

Fallow deer are a common sight browsing between the trees amidst the cover of the bracken. The dramatic spectacle of a large fallow buck with antlers aloft crashing through the undergrowth is sure to get the heart racing.
