SOLD: Bryggia Wood £59,000 Freehold

  • Broughton, Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire
  • about 3 ¾ acres
  • East Anglia

Description

Bryggia Wood is a delight to visit with its wide variety of trees and excellent access. An afternoon watching a hare lollop aimlessly really is a remedy for today's busy life. A feeling of wellbeing is generated by time spent quietly with nature.

Bryggia Wood stands in a larger commercially managed forest on the edge of Scunthorpe next to the village of Broughton a few minutes’ drive from the M180.

The woodland is level with fertile soil up to a metre in depth that sits on a sub of loose limestone making the woodland free draining. The ground flora includes a number of ferns, such as the scaly male, hard shield and bracken. The closed canopy casts a shadow over the vegetation but you will find a variety of wildflowers including primroses, violets, early purple orchid and red campion, followed by dog’s mercury with grasses on the minor tracks.

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.

Trees

A mix of pine, sycamore and hazel create a natural feeling.

Wildlife

The mixed habitat of woodland next to open farmland has created a hospitable environment for wildlife, deer are regular visitors along with foxes and hares.

Features

As you pass along the path that dissects the woodland you will cross a seasonal stream that runs into the next woodland. This is a great place to sit quietly and catch sight of other woodland residents such as foxes or hares. The wood is level and the mixed habitat offers plenty of places to rest and camp.

Access, tracks and footpaths

The woodland has the benefit of an excellent stoned access track suitable for most family vehicles providing all year access to the woodland.

There are no public footpaths running through the wood.

Rights and covenants

The woodland covenant is in place to assure the preservation of this important environment along with the additional security of a local authority Tree Preservation Order to assist with sound forestry practice for the future stewardship of the wood.

Activities

A perfect woodland for family forestry, the wood is well established, Some of the pines that were used as a nurse crop to help the other species thrive could now be thinned providing wood fuel. Alternatively sit back and watch the wood mature naturally.

Level with small open areas the wood is perfect for summer camping trips.

Local area and history

The woodland was used as a depot during the Second World War. The trees gave cover to vital supplies used to keep the local Royal Airforce running and for that reason has some of the best woodland tracks which are suitable for most cars throughout the year.

The wood gets its name from the Anglo-Saxon period. A bryggia or brigg was the Norse and Old English name for a bridge. Glanford Brigg was founded at the crossing place of the Ancholme before 1183 and this is how the nearby town of Brigg got its name.
