In this film by rewilding filmmaker Jack d'Gama, we meet George Hassall who shows us a nature-based solution for reducing rodent damage to young trees: incorporating perches for birds of prey in your woodland.
Rodents, rabbits, hares and grey squirrels can damage bark by gnawing on it, increasing the risk of infection and potentially killing the tree. Encouraging birds of prey to your young woodland can reduce this damage and is one option that can be used in conjunction with other methods.
