Community Woodlands Projects

One of our main aims at Woodlands.co.uk is to get more people into woodlands, including those people and groups who can't afford to buy their own wood. For the last 2 years we have been running a community woodlands project and in that space of time we have had more than 500 requests from people who wish to use woodlands for activities involving the local community. We now have people who use our woods for children's groups, scouts, forest schools, social forestry, bushcraft courses, woodlands management demonstrations, off-road horse riding organisations, orienteering and coppicing.

As we have received such a large number of enquiries, we have decided to set up a forum to put community groups in touch with other woodland owners who would be interested in allowing their woodland to be used in this way.

Are you a woodland owner?

Below are some of the projects requiring woodland. You may also wish to read our advice on hosting a project in your woodland.

Brecon/South Powys/South Wales

I am looking for areas of woodland in South Wales to run short and longer courses for a variety of client groups, to develop their outdoor skills, knowledge, confidence, appreciation and spiritual connection to nature. Preferably in the Brecon area but willing to look further afield also. My activities would respect the land and its inhabitants, and cause minimal impact on the environment. I lived in woodland in Somerset for eight years and assisted with its management during that time. My background is in mental health and learning disabilities, and two years ago I qualified as an NCFE Level 3 Bushcraft Instructor with the award winning Woodcraft School in Sussex. The course took 10 weeks over a year, involved the creation of a large portfolio of work, and included practical bushcraft skills, woodland crafts, foraging, woodland and environmental management, wildlife surveying, tools and maintenance, health and safety, risk assessment, legal aspects, teaching theory and pratice, advanced first aid and food hygiene, game preparation, and BELA award. I would consider any size or type of woodland. Thanks! More details

I am looking for a small area of woodland to use to for Forest School activities with various groups from children to adults with learning difficulties. I am a fully qualified Forest Schools practitioner and lived in and managed woodlands in Devon for 4 years. A small area would be quite sufficient and it does not matter if the woods are overgrown. There will be the minimum anount of impact on the land as is possible. More details

We are looking for a site to develop as an outdoor classroom. I am a youth worker for a local high school and qualified as a forest school leader last year. This will have minimal impact on the environment, it will involve some coppicing, use of a small clearing, fire lighting ( a fire wok can be used if prefered). We hope to do some crafts and cooking and generally teach the students respect for the environment. Hope you can help! Thanks More details
