SOLD: Astral Wood £65,000 Freehold

Description

This woodland has the variety and interest of many a larger wood. There is a mix of mature broadleaf species and hidden clearings from which to enjoy the woodland environment surrounded by other privately owned woodland and the flower rich grasslands of Dorset Wildlife Trust land. Amongst the towering oak, birch and beech there are small areas of hazel that appear at some time in the past to have been coppiced and the dense cover is perfect for browsing deer that are frequently seen here.

From immersion within the secluded natural environment of Astral Wood there is an easy return back to the reality of everyday life as the wood, in spite of its rural setting, is readily accessible close to the A356 connecting Dorchester to Crewkerne. The wider area has plenty to offer the woodland owner, with the delights of the South coast and the numerous historic market towns of rural Dorset awaiting exploration.

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.

Wildlife

Such is the importance of this natural environment that it is covered by a tree preservation order aimed at ensuring its continued existence as an important place where rare species can thrive. Numerous insects and butterflies are attracted to the sunny rides at the woodland fringes and the clean air of the wood, including the Brown Argus butterfly

Access, tracks and footpaths

Woodland tracks through neighbouring woodland lead directly to the entrance to Astral Wood from the highway as shown on the accompanying plans. There are no public footpaths running through or alongside Astral Wood.

Local area and history

The dramatic sweeping countryside of rural Dorset is an uplifting spectacle. This area is sparsely populated and characterised by small rural communities and attractive villages. The nearby village of Toller Porcorum exemplifies these ancient settlements with an interesting church known for its 'drooping chancel'. An architectural feature of a lop-sided arch to reflect the head of Christ on the cross.
