Description
Even as the refulgent summer sun wanes, the striking colours of autumn illuminate the woodland vista. The palette of vivid summer greens drains from the leaves revealing a glittering sea of orange and gold. This annual display is particularly captivating at Boscage Wood due to the sheer variety of tree types found here. Cherry, beech, larch, oak and birch produce myriad shades and contrast with the coniferous cedar and pine that also make up this enchanting environment. The immersive effect is further enhanced by the rust coloured bracken as it retreats into the forest floor in the open clearings beneath stands of majestic oak. The wood takes its name from the word ‘boscage’ that describes this natural mix of trees and shrubs.
Trees
A well constructed woodland track leads to the entrance to Boscage Wood from where a series of pathways through the wood provide access deep into the cover of mature woodland. At every turn the differing character and tree variety within this woodland awaits discovery. The keen eyed will pick up the ancient trails leading through the forest where the thick cover of cherry, larch and cedar gives way to an impressive parkland style vista of established oak.
Access, tracks and footpaths
At the woods edge a sturdy fence secures the western boundary and to the east a woodland track runs along the edge of Boscage Wood and provides excellent access into the protected clearings at the heart of wood.
Other adjacent privately owned woodland ensures the tranquillity of the area in this delightful tract of rural Hampshire. Nearby footpaths and lanes link the wood to open countryside and village hostelries.

The wider surrounding area is characterised by the natural beauty of rural Hampshire with its numerous pretty villages and appealing hostelries. In spite of the peaceful location there is excellent access to the main road network just a few minutes away from the A339 between Newbury and Basingstoke.

Directions
From the A339 between Newbury and Basingstoke take the first turning north to the village of Ramsdell and then left from the crossroads at the village centre onto the Baughurst Road for 400 metres until a right hand turn to West Heath. After another kilometre and a half there is a sharp right turn onto Church Road past some farm buildings. Then, after 500 metres you will see the first of two 'woodlands for sale' signboards on your left. After the second signboard there is a locked entrance gate into the woodland.
From Tadley, leave the A340 (Tadley Hill) at the roundabout and turn west along New Road for approx 800 metres until a left turn onto Church Road. After about a kilometre you will pass St Peters Church on your left and after a further 800 metres you will reach the signboard and entrance gate to the woodlands on your right. From here follow the instructions as below.
You can pull off the lane near here, being careful not to cause an obstruction and climb the gate to follow the woodland track as it proceeds ahead. After 50 metres or so you will see the name sign and pink coloured markings for Boscage Wood.
