SOLD: Bracklesham Wood £139,000 Freehold

Description

Bracklesham Wood offers an excellent opportunity in this attractive part of the country to experience the joy of woodland ownership, with plenty here to explore and enjoy. Numerous sunny glades throughout the wood provide camping opportunities when the weather permits and an open air workshop for forest crafts amongst the spring bluebells. There is abundant seasoned timber on the forest floor for the wood burner amongst a variety of mainly broadleaf tree species. The ground here is level and there are inspiring views across neighbouring woodland and open fields.

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.

Trees

An area of younger planting marks the entrance to Bracklesham Wood, this young fir and oak leads into an area of more mature beech, oak and ash that covers the majority of the remaining area of the woodland.

Wildlife

The Woodland is home all year round to many species of insects and mammals. The warm air of summer in the sheltered sunny clearings is ideal for numerous butterflies and insects and when autumn comes, deep, golden leaf litter provides important protective habitat before the arrival of spring. A thick summer tree canopy provides shelter from the heat and even the winter wood affords protection form the harshest conditions. In a time of reducing diversity in the natural world it is increasingly important to cherish and preserve the woodland environment for the benefit of our native wildlife.

Access, tracks and footpaths

A good access track leads to the entrance to the wood from where a series of private tracks for the use of exclusive Bracklesham Wood lead into the heart of the wood and along the south and east boundaries. These ancient logging tracks provide vehicle access to the furthest points of the wood and define the boundaries, these could be further improved according to the needs of a new owner.

A rural public footpath runs along the north west boundary and provides a great opportunity to explore the delightful surrounding open countryside.

Local area and history

Bracklesham Wood is named after the geology of the wider Hampshire Basin known as the Bracklesham Beds, made up of sand and loam substrates. The area is characterised by pretty villages in a delightful rural setting yet within easy reach of the south coast. The tranquillity of the wood belies the fact that the large population centres of Portsmouth, Southampton, Winchester and Bournemouth are within such easy reach or that the motorway network is so readily accessible for visitors from London and the home counties.
