Rimes Wood £85,000 Freehold

Description

A clean, fresh breeze blows over the open fields adjacent to Rimes Wood, encouraging a variety of delicate mosses and algae to flourish in the shadows of towering oak, and western red cedar deep within the wood. Stunning woodland flora lie undisturbed in the grassy clearings at the woodland fringes. Amongst these are spring bluebells and the purple flowers of the hedge woundwort that is such an irresistible draw for bees and is thought to have been used in traditional medicine due to its healing properties. Wild fungus from nature's larder at Rimes Wood can also be put to good use by the expert forager.

There is easy vehicular access to the woodland along a well made track accessed via a secure gateway. The future of this precious woodland environment will be conserved and enjoyed by a community of like-minded private owners of adjacent woodlands.

The landscape here is a stunning rural vista that can be fully enjoyed form the elevated north western boundary of Rimes Wood where light from the adjacent open field penetrates through the dense tree cover, stimulating growth of woodland plants and grasses on the forest floor. A grassy woodland ride along this boundary provides an easy wander through the best of English nature.

Trees

Larger trees originally provided a shelter belt along the open filed boundary for the planting of a western red cedar in the 1960s. These have now reached maturity and provide and impressive sight in this established woodland environment. The timber is much prized for its natural resistance to decay, insects and moisture.

Wildlife

An English woodland is a vibrant ecosystem that supports a wide variety of wildlife.

Among the creatures you might encounter are roe deer—shy, graceful animals often seen in the early morning or at dusk.

Foxes, badgers, and hedgehogs are also common residents, foraging through the undergrowth or moving silently beneath the trees.

The woodland canopy and branches are alive with birdsong, home to a variety of species including owls, woodpeckers, and buzzards, to name just a few.

Features

At the southern boundary a sheltered grassy clearing sits beneath veteran oak at the woodlands edge. These glorious views provide a stunning backdrop for viewing sunsets over the open farmland.

Access, tracks and footpaths

This is a very peaceful and private wood with no public footpaths.

Rights and covenants

As is the case for all our woodlands, the purchaser will be asked to enter into a covenant which serves to protect the peace and quiet of the woodland.

Local area and history

The number of tumuli or burial mounds in the surrounding area indicate that there is long history of settlement around modern day Tadley and Baughurst, dating back to the iron age and beyond.

In more recent times the area has been home to some of our most noteworthy eighteenth / nineteenth century figures. Jane Austen lived for a while nearby in Steventon and Sir Arthur Wellesly the 1st Duke of Wellington made this area part of his estate. Nearby a local hostelry bearing his name makes for a delightful stroll across the fields from Rimes Wood.
