Description
Planted at the turn of the century, Langham Wood has established into a charming mixed woodland with grassy rides between well spaced trees. Level glades along a stream edge are beautiful locations for occasional overnight stays and picnics. The stream flows gently along the edge of the woodland surrounded by other areas of private woodland and traditional rolling fields.
The location is an ideal base in which to explore the north Devon coastline, with the added benefit of a local railway station within walking or cycling distance linking to Barnstaple and Exeter.

Trees
A variety of trees are found within the woodland including wild cherry, ash, hazel, blackthorn alder and some larger willows along the stream edge.
Wildlife
This really is a great space to enjoy the wonders of our native woodland dwelling wildlife. Walking into the woodland you will be amazed by the active bird life that inhabits this peaceful spot. Small birds such as wrens, chaffinches, robins, bluetits and long tailed tits frequent the area while you may also be lucky enough to see a flash of blue as a kingfisher darts along the stream.
There are plentiful signs of mammals found within the woodland and streams. Signs of otters include 'spraint' and shortcut paths where otters will regularly travel along the water, cutting off the corners to save time and energy. Roe deer and badgers are also found here.

A picturesque stream winds along the western and southern edges.
There is a more open area of land within the central part of Langham Wood which is in part a semi - wetland area that could be ideally suited to pond creation.

Access to the woodland is from a quiet country lane onto a shared stoned forestry track that has 2 small private parking areas as well as a large shared parking and turning area.
There are no public rights of way within the woodland.

Activities
Very well suited to wildlife watching, a 'hide' could be set up near the stream to look out for the elusive otter as well as bird watching.
Woodland yoga can be enjoyed at the stream edge with the relaxing flow of water in the background whilst enjoying occasional camping with the open grassy areas and level topography.
Local area and history
Surrounding Langham Wood are several small Devon hamlets such as Hiscott and Harracott along with a number of traditional farmsteads whose occupants have maintained the landscape for hundreds of years.
Nearby is one of the largest rivers in Devon, the river Taw, which was made famous in Henry Williamson's delightful novel 'Tarka the otter'. The Taw estuary is part of the North Devon UNESCO Biosphere reserve.
Adjacent to the river at Chapelton is the Tarka railway line, a picturesque train route through the heart of north and mid Devon between the town of Barnstaple near the north coast and Devon's capital City Exeter.

- Please contact the local agent to register your interest and to arrange access to view.
- Joing the A377 either at Barnstaple heading south or Exeter heading north.
- Turn off the A377 at Week Lane End Cross, signposted towards Week and Harracott.
- Continue along this road for around 2 miles, passing through Harracott, until you come down a hill to Heccaton Bridge where you will continue on the road heading right and see the entrance gate immediately on your left.
- Use the gate code to access the gate (please close the gate and mix the code up when you go through the gate).
- Drive along the shared forestry track and cross a stream over a concrete bridge.
- You can park immediately in front of you in the old gateway to view the woodland or carry on for another 100 metres until you see a small stoned parking area on you right where you can park and turn.
