Description
Coed Cedrwydd enjoys a west facing aspect, the growth of the well spaced trees is testament to this.
On the tranquil walk up to the top of the hill, the diversity of trees will keep you totally enthralled.
The well-spaced nature of this gem allows easy access and movement. If you want to stop and make a cup of tea, anywhere is perfect. See if you can find one of the most majestic holly trees towards the top. The ecology in the woodland is pretty diverse, and sitting quietly will allow you to absorb the riches here; it's just such an amazing place to relax.
Trees
Coed Cedrwydd is predominantly cedar woodland.
The trees are in superb condition, mature, well-spaced and truly magnificent.
Towards the top of the woodland sycamore, beech, ash, oak and holly are all present - enjoying the warmth of the afternoon sun. A few small glades have allowed the start of the understorey and there is immediately new growth - very fertile soil and well-draining aspects are good for this!
Wildlife
From raptors overhead, to small mammals under the ground, great insects and wonderful plants, this woodland has a huge variety of wildlife.
We have seen evidence of Badgers, heard and watched Buzzards and seen numerous smaller birds. It wouldn't be surprising to see cute rodents in the connecting hedgerows as Dormice are known to be close by.
The big trees provide an amazing habitat for bats - spot the cracks that might be home!
Features
From a newly cleaned track, Coed Cedrwydd has a flat place to park a car and is entered via a set of soil steps.
The woodland rises gently along what feels like an historic path. Gentle areas of flatness create lovely spaces to sit, lie or relax looking up at enormously tall trees. The key with the woodland is the variety of environment - from the cedars to the broadleaf this environment can be enjoyed as it is or gently managed to be more and more diverse.
Access, tracks and footpaths
From the iron entrance gate, Coed Foddhyd is directly up the newly cleaned track.
Approximately 100m up the track you will see a parking space, from here you can easily head into the woodland via the steps.
Within the woodland itself there is plenty of scope for moving around. There are no public footpaths, but this is an open-access woodland.
Rights and covenants
As is the case for all our woodlands, the purchaser will be asked to enter into a covenant which serves to protect the peace and quiet of the woodland.

Local area and history
The nearby town of Ruthin is a historic market town and community hub that has had historical links stretching back to Celtic times.
The name Ruthin comes from the Welsh rhudd ('red') and din ('fort'), after the colour of sandstone bedrock, from which the castle was built in 1277–1284.
