SOLD: Barley Meadow £79,000 Freehold

Description

Barley Meadow can be found just a stones throw back from the jagged coastline of Anglesey near the village of Valley, just opposite Holy Island. It’s location and topography afford it breath taking views across mud flats, Holyhead Bay and the sea beyond. Looking in a westerly and northerly direction one can enjoy a panoramic vista of sea and sky. Local beaches can be found a short distance from the meadow.

Divided into two useful sections and bordered on all sides by thick hedgerows, the meadow is a sanctuary of calm awash with potential for tree planting and other conservation activity. The land has an agricultural history having been cut for silage and grazed by livestock in recent years.

The land is accessed via an excellent stoned track which ensures year-round vehicular access directly to the meadow. There is an area of hardstanding in the south-east corner by the entrance where a vehicle can be parked. The meadow is at its highest at this point offering the best vantage point, before dropping away very gently in a westerly direction towards the coast. This upper section measures around 1 ½ acres before an internal hedgerow is reached which divides Barley Meadow. One passes through this hedge into the lower section, itself measuring around 2 ¾ acres. The land is boarded on all sides by well-established hedges containing gorse, hawthorn and other hedgerow species which offer both shelter and privacy.

Barley Meadow would appeal to those who are interested in owning a small parcel of private land in a quiet and beautiful location to nurture and enjoy spending time on. As an almost blank canvas, the meadow offers a new owner the opportunity to mould and shape the landscape and bring a vision to reality.

In terms of finding the meadow, when heading west on the A55 towards Holyhead leave at the Valley exit (junction 3) and head through the town on the A5, Holyhead Road. After passing the petrol station on your left hand side, take the second right – Gorad Road. Go straight on for circa 1km, passing a number of houses on your left hand side, at which point the road sweeps around to the right. The main entrance is just after this bend on the left hand side, demarcated by Woodlands signs. Park here and carefully climb the gate before walking up the stoned track for around 300m at which point Barley Meadow will be on your left hand side, immediately after the second hedge row you pass through.

The purchasers of the meadow will be asked to enter into a covenant

Local area and history

Anglesey island is renound for its ancient history and prehistoric and Celtic remains. It is low and fertile in comparison to the relatively mountainous mainlaind of North Wales and hence has a rich agricultural history. Seafaring, trading and fishing have always been significant with Irish trading routes established early on before expansive networks opened linking North Wales with Europe and the wider world.
