Description
Devil's Chair Wood is a flat, well spaced woodland that is easily accessed on the newly laid track from the main gate. It has some of the most beautiful mature Beech Trees that we seen, they were planted in the 1870's!
Old internal extraction routes run through the woodland which could be improved upon or left as they are.
There are also a mix of many other trees, birch, holly, larch to name a few.
The location is next to the Stiperstones National Park, which makes it a perfect base from which to explore.
The access route is vehicle accessible, a key will be given upon purchase.
Trees
The woodland is a mix of well spaced Japanese larch, planted in 1958 and broad leaf, hazel, willow and holly to name a few. The jewel in the the crown is the central area of majestic mature Beech Trees. These huge trees provide a beautiful woodland floor abundant with life.
Wildlife
While we have been working within the woodlands we have come across muntjac deer. There are also signs of badger and other small rodents.
Clearly visible amongst the Larch are Buzzards nests, you can hear them calling frequently. There are also Ravens and a wide variety of small birds.
Features
A large easily accessed woodland, flat with old extraction tracks running through it. The views across Stiperstones Park are stunning, and to the north west is open countryside.
Being at the top of the hill the ground is well drained, and very productive soil, evident in the quality of foliage.
Access, tracks and footpaths
A recent stone track gives great access to the woodland from the gate. Inside the ride stop there is an area ideal for parking a vehicle.
Whilst there are no internal "footpaths" moving around in the wood is easy due to the widely spaced trees.
Rights and covenants
As is the case for all our woodlands, the purchaser will be asked to enter into a covenant which serves to protect the peace and quiet of the woodland.
Activities
As you might imagine, the area is full of outdoor things to do, from the quieter pursuits, as well as rifle shooting at the neighbouring Minsterley Ranges.
The Shropshire Hills National Landscape website, provides a huge amount of information that helps inspire days out.
Local area and history
The wood is within sight of the Stiperstones National Nature Reserve. and very close to the Bog visitor centre.
Around 5 miles away, in Wales, is the small village of Churchstoke, here you’ll find a couple of restaurants, fuel and a supermarket.
The wider area of Shropshire has a huge amount of interest for visitors to explore.
