SOLD: Coed Pwll Y Bedol £65,000 Freehold

Description

Coed Pwll Y Bedol is a unique woodland.

The wooded areas have a mix of oak, willow, and sycamore to name a few. It also has a unique horseshoe shaped lake (Pedol in Welsh) of almost half an acre, with a small island. While we've worked there we've followed the life of the resident nesting Canada Geese, watching as they've reared their chicks. In the early summer the lake is filled with gorgeous large globe like lilies, whilst the pwll, or lake is fringed with yellow flag iris, pollinators and dragonflies drawn to the gorgeous colours reflected in the waters. The lake is also home to Mallard ducks.

Around the edge of this area are large mature oaks. To the roadside is a small copse of private woods, perfect for exploring. To the east the boundary is the centre of a small water course. All the boundaries are marked in pink.

Coed Pwll y Bedol appears on the Unified Peat Map of Wales. This means there are possibly grants available for restoration.

The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.

Trees

A mix of mostly broadleaf, oak, willow and sycamore. Mature oaks flank the north boundary.

Wildlife

During our work in the woodland we have been lucky enough to see Red Deer grazing outside our tents in the early morning. There are also a few badger dens, some old and some active.

Spring and summer sees numerous butterflies and insects. It is a haven for wildlife, pollinators are attracted to the numerous flowers, blue damselfly dragonflies sparkle in the summer sun.

The birdlife is diverse, from Canadian Geese nesting on the lake, to large buzzards and kites circling overhead. A peregrine falcon has also been spotted nearby.

The woodland and fields are full of life the whole year round. .

Features

The main feature of this woodland is the unique lake and island surrounded by trees and open flat land. It's a haven for wildlife of all descriptions. Towards the road there is a small woodland copse, and to the west there is a boundary with a neighbouring meadow.

Access, tracks and footpaths

The woodland is accessed off the left of the main track. Through a gate there is flat land and a clearing for car parking. There is a small sheep trodden route around the lake, and a subtle pathway into the wooden copse. Apart from these pathways the woodland is a natural habitat.

There is a seldom used public footpath which passes adjacent to the lake and into the small woodland.

Local area and history

This area is right on the edge of the Cambrian mountains and isn't too far from Llyn Vyrnwy. The 6000 acre Dyfnant Forest (described by Lonely Planet as being "where a well-signposted maze of forestry tracks culminates in one enormous hill before descending rather spectacularly toward Lake Vyrnwy").

Standing at 335m behind the meadows and woodlands is the hill, Moel Bentyrch. Here you will find the old settlement of Pen y Bwlch (Top of the Pass) a testament to a much older community in this area.
