Description
Accessed from the top road or bottom road, Coed Y Bryn is a mix of re-gen and mature trees. Flanked by a public footpath, this track leads you alongside old walls and historic extraction routes. These extraction tracks lead into flat areas ripe for exploration. There are levels, and towering buttresses - many of which we haven't even explored. These track ways lead to some large open levels surrounded by mysterious walls - really worth an explore. There is even the remails of a quarry area on the southern boundary
The area is rich in wildlife, beautifully protected by an SSSI. Mature Beech and robust Yew are intermixed with the usual Ash, Rowen, Birch etc. The area was felled of coniferous trees. What is now here is a rich new growth and ancient Beech.
Based in a quiet area of the Nant Alyn area this is an ideal area to start exploring from. It is ripe for some gentle woodland management.
Trees
On Wales inventory as a Plantatiom on an Ancient Woodlands Site (PAWS) clear felled in 2020, Coed Y Bryn has remaining mature Beech, Oak, Sycamore and more. It has Willow, Silver Birch and Holly growing on the lower areas.
Wildlife
Nant Alyn is part of the Alyn Valley Woods and Alyn Gorge Caves Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), located in Denbighshire and Flintshire, North Wales. It is designated for its significant limestone woodland, gorge habitats, and geological interest.
With amazing local geology, wildlife across the woodland is diverse, including several species of bats, birds, and amphibians. Rare bats, such as the lesser horseshoe bat, can be found there, as well as over 84 recorded bird species including kingfishers and buzzards. The site also supports reptiles like grass snakes and slow-worms, and amphibians such as newts and frogs.
Features
In parts Coed Y Bryn is steep, but there is a network of old extraction tracks that weave through the woodland. These lead to large open flat levels at the north of the woodland.
Access, tracks and footpaths
Within the wood land there are remains of old extraction tracks and pathways which could be gently maintained to provide access into the woods. Coed Y Bryn can be accessed from the top and bottom road.
There are no public footpaths within the woods, but a public footpath runs along the NE and NW boundaries. For more details refer to the maps.
Rights and covenants
As is the case for all our woodlands, the purchaser will be asked to enter into a covenant which serves to protect the peace and quiet of the woodland.
