Community Woodlands Projects

One of our main aims at Woodlands.co.uk is to get more people into woodlands, including those people and groups who can't afford to buy their own wood. For the last 2 years we have been running a community woodlands project and in that space of time we have had more than 500 requests from people who wish to use woodlands for activities involving the local community. We now have people who use our woods for children's groups, scouts, forest schools, social forestry, bushcraft courses, woodlands management demonstrations, off-road horse riding organisations, orienteering and coppicing.

As we have received such a large number of enquiries, we have decided to set up a forum to put community groups in touch with other woodland owners who would be interested in allowing their woodland to be used in this way.

Are you a woodland owner?

Below are some of the projects requiring woodland. You may also wish to read our advice on hosting a project in your woodland.

Milton Keynes

It has come to my notice that Duncombe Wood near to Milton Keynes is currently for sale. I am looking to see if it could be purchased as a community wood and am looking for people preferably in the Milton Keynes area (say up to 30) who would be interested in joining in with me with this venture. The idea is for all parties to have an equal holding and rights managed through a notforprofit organisation. Needless to say management would have to be self financial. Anybody interested or if you know anyone who would be, please get touch Regards Eric More details

Within 20 miles of Forest Row, East Sussex

I am looking for woodland owners who need their woodlands managed and who are willing to form an exchange. My working background has been in Farming, Estate Management and most recently, Tree Surgery. I have a high level of tree knowledge and all the necessary Chain Saw qualifications. Woodlands require a lot of careful and considerate management. I enjoy maintaining health and balance in these ancient ecosystems. Thank you and I look forward to hearing from someone who is interested. Cheers, Flyn. More details
