http://www.woodlands.co.uk Woodlands archery, powerful bows and arrows. Long bows made from yew were used during the Hundred Years War. Neil Eddiford from Wolfshead Bowmen describes the properties that made yew suitable for the long bow, and how often English yew wasn't used at all. Other woods used for bows were ash and wych elm. He also looks at the arrows with fletchlings of goose feather, a bodkin point or a needle bodkin. These are serious weapons for medieval warfare, and Neil describes the range and penetration power these arrows could have.

Wolfshead Bowmen are a re-enactment group and Woodlands TV met up with them at the Weald Wood Fair at Bentley Wildfowl and Motor Museum.

+mpkunz6336 Its maybe a little easier to have a pistol in your pocket capable of killing multiple people in a very short period of time versus a longbow and a quiver full of arrows.

+Charlie The Turtle Modern thinking is longbows rarely shot long distances and usually waited until the enemy were much closer. There are very few descriptions or drawings of longbows lobbing arrows at long range, they are nearly always pointing the bow fairly flat. Its also worth noting that the penetration drops off around 50 yards and continues to do so until around 100 yards, then the penetration starts climbing until around 200 yards then it is nearly as close as at 50. This has been tested very recently.

+The Brit You're making my point. Thank you. Brits disintegrate on responsible firearm ownership. So why would having a pistol in my pocket, which I do at all times, be an issue if I carry it responsibly when carrying a bow and several arrows is not an issue if used responsibly ?

+mpkunz6336 if I walked into town with my longbow and a set of arrows on my back I would be arrested. I am not making your point, archery is done on a range or at another specific location designed for archery, we aren't allowed to just wander around with strung bows ready to fire.

+The Brit You ARE making my point. You just changed the argument. If I walked through town with my pistol in hand, I would be arrested too. I practice at a range, in fact I OWN the range, I carry ONLY for self protection. But in Britain, you cannot own firearms. Your nanny-state ministry of sharp and pointy things monitors how many damn kitchen knives you own.

+Brady Ramirez He's right. Bullet proof vest are made of interlocking fiber. Arrowheads cut through these fibers. Bullets can't. Ballistic shock versus cutting action

Cite your reference please, a genuine NRA publication in which the NRA advocates arming 7 year old children on their way to school, not some nannymongering british tabloid rag.
