Oak Shingles

Slow connection? Watch in lower quality

Here at the Forestry Commission`s `Treefest`, Ruth Goodfellow shows us her skills in making durable shingles for roofs using wood from the coppice restoration project at Westonbirt Arboretum in Gloucestershire. Ruth makes these individual shingles entirely by hand from cleft oak or sweet chestnut. She shares her passion for her work, showing us the specific tools she uses as well as talking about her varied training and experience in working with wood.
