Community Woodlands Projects

One of our main aims at Woodlands.co.uk is to get more people into woodlands, including those people and groups who can't afford to buy their own wood. For the last 2 years we have been running a community woodlands project and in that space of time we have had more than 500 requests from people who wish to use woodlands for activities involving the local community. We now have people who use our woods for children's groups, scouts, forest schools, social forestry, bushcraft courses, woodlands management demonstrations, off-road horse riding organisations, orienteering and coppicing.

As we have received such a large number of enquiries, we have decided to set up a forum to put community groups in touch with other woodland owners who would be interested in allowing their woodland to be used in this way.

KENT, 30 miles of Folestone

I am a tutor at an alternative curriculum provision in Folkestone. We provide alternate educational opportunities and life skills to disengaged and disaffected students aged 14-16. I am interested in finding some woodland that I can use to visit with small groups of students, to carry out forest school activities such as campfire cooking ( I have completed the Earth Craft UK campfire management certificate). In return we would help with management of the woodland such as clearing deadfall / brambles, mending fencing etc whatever was required.Obviously we would like to only impact positively on the woods and would not cause any nuisance More details

Hi there, Myself and my collegue who are middle aged, are looking for permission to use a private (or public) woodland to use for bushcraft purposes which will include small respectfull fires and nights over bivvying. My collegue is a profesional arbourist/ tree surgeon so there is no problem with us as to the symphethetic values of the woodland and we may pose usefull to the genaral maintainance for free. This could be anything like clearing dead wood & maintainance, care for wild life or reporting on any trespasers. We are finding it increasinly difficult to practice our hobby in local woodland so we would be extreamly greatfull for any response. Yours Dave chapman & Andrew Middleton More details
